MONSTACartoons - Election Year

Hey there Roadworks People,

With the school holidays almost over now is the time to forget about the kids and to spoil yourself! With the tightening economy, there are great deals to be had nationwide!

Winter's long nights are also great for getting out on the town, catching a film festival movie, or taking in some of Aotearoa's fine musical talent.

Don't forget that this week is Maori Language Week. Our Maori word of the week is Iporangi - Internet.  And well done Google for recognising our unique culture and adding Maori Language options to www.google.co.nz!

‘My catalogue has evolved from my own explorations and experiments into photography, taking my camera with me on every holiday over the last five years ... but also from listening to my customers and understanding what they really love about New Zealand and our unique lifestyle - from the vibrant blue skies, the red pohutakaws and our unforgettable iconic Rangitoto. It’s a great feeling to know that my photos adorn the walls of homesick Kiwis all over the world, from London, to India, to the South of France, throughout Scotland ..etc..

Popular Auckland locations that Lucy has photographed include Piha Beach, Muriwai Beach, Rangitoto, Auckland City skyline at night, Orakei Boatsheds, One Tree Hill, Flax (Harakeke) and Pohutakawa flowers and Toi Toi collages. Lucy’s Urban portfolio includes K Road, Kingsland, Grey Lynn and Ponsonby graffiti details that are merged into edgy ‘Street Art’ photo collages.

Lucy works full time as an architect and interior designer in Auckland and often customer designs her clients photographic artworks that suit their space. From small matted photographic limited edition prints to 4m long photographic murals, canvas photos, photography printed directly onto aluminium and plywood, contemporary white box framed pieces, block framed works ... Maori Language Week

Every year since 1975 New Zealand has marked Maori Language Week. This is a time for all New Zealanders to celebrate te reo Maori (the Maori language) and to use more Maori phrases in everyday life. In 2008 Maori Language Week will be 21-27 July, the theme is 'te reo i te kainga – Maori language in the home'.

A big 'ups' to Google who have launched a Maori Language option on www.google.co.nz this week!

Aotea Square - Your Feedback?

Since opening in 1979 Aotea Square has hosted events large and small - from victory parades and rock concerts to protest rallies and busking festivals. But after nearly 30 years of constant use, Aotea Square is showing its age. The roof of the Civic car park, which runs underneath the square, has structural damage and needs repairing.

The car park repair details and Aotea Centre alterations have already been confirmed. The Aotea Centre entrance will be made more welcoming, with centred front steps and a new box office and café.

The draft design was developed by landscape designers Ted Smyth and Associates, with input from other leading urban designers, technical experts and several stakeholder groups.

Feedback is welcome until submissions close on August 1st.
